If it's "Naturally Gluten Free" is it safe?

On some labels, we sometimes find the phrase “Naturally gluten-free” highlighted, however this does not mean that the food is safe for celiacs, only that it was made from gluten-free ingredients, but it does not exclude the possibility of cross-contamination in some way. process phase.

It is important to always read all the information on the packaging carefully and, if in doubt, contact the brand or manufacturer.

Legally, only the following statements regarding the gluten content are authorized:
- «Gluten-free» means that the food contains less than 20mg/kg of gluten. Associated with these foods, the words “suitable for people with gluten intolerance” or “suitable for people with celiac disease” may also appear.
- "Very low gluten content" means that the food comes from a cereal that contains gluten, does not reach 100 mg/kg of gluten, and can be tolerated by less sensitive people.

Along with these legal statements, the phrases "specially formulated for people with gluten intolerance" or "specially formulated for people with celiac disease" are also authorized, if the food in question is specially produced, prepared and/or processed to reduce the content of one or more gluten-containing ingredients or replacing gluten-containing ingredients with other naturally gluten-free ingredients.
